Competitions

Competition season is right around the corner. Soon we will be spending our Saturdays at high schools all around the area competing and performing our routine we worked so hard on.

At each competition the girls will perform their routines for the judges. These judges will give them critiques and a score. Based on this we work hard the next week to make changes to our routine and then we are back at it again the next Saturday.

Building Towards the Future

Our main goal is to build toward the future. We are preparing our girls for the high school dance team and even a college dance team. Each Monday we have Ashley Claybrook come in and teach technique. This makes the girls an all around better dancer. This along with games and competitions are previews to what high school will be like for them.

Learning Competition Routine

One of the most exciting days of our year is when our choreographer Ashley Claybrook teaches us our new competition dance!

After a long long practice we finally have the base of our routine learned. Next our coaches Jessie and Christina work hard to make changes that will suit our team and style. Hard practices will soon follow but we know it will all be worth it when get to that first competition on Dec 7th!

…because of action.

today was meaningful

i’ve been thinking about inspiration a lot lately.

like who searches for it and who gets inspired.  what you do with it.  and why we need it. part of me thinks that inspiration is the inner voice that calls out to us to find our potential.  it’s that little whisper that reminds you that you can do more. be more.  i think the feeling we get when we read.hear.see.think about something motivating and inspiring is about that  strong pull to be a part of something greater than yourself. it reminds us of our individual and collective possibilities of doing something wonderful for the world. i think inspiration is about finding that spark within yourself that is waiting to be lit.  and i think another part of it is about hope, the little reminder that things can get better. that you can change. that things aren’t always as they seem…

….because of letters to strangers.

today was meaningful

i like the idea of taking advice from complete strangers.  people who don’t know your story, but who know theirs so well.  advice that takes a piece of their heart and gives it to you. maybe you do too.

i’d like to be your friend, but if we aren’t yet,  here is what i would say.

dear stranger,

you are here in this moment reading this letter. and that means so many things. first you should know that you are alive. recognize it.  the falling and rising of your breath, the possibilities within your reach. the power you have to make this life all that you have wanted it to be. and you are blessed.  blessed to know how to read and to have technology available to you. appreciate this and remember that you could lose it all.  stay grateful. you should know that you are wonderful.   wherever you are…

Team Building

This week we are focusing on Team Building.

Camp is a huge team building activity we do. The girls are together for three very longs days. It takes a lot of work and dedication from everyone. As a team we grow together and come out of it a better team.

Throughout the year we try to have multiple team bonding nights. These include staying after practice and eating pizza, making tutu’s for our Halloween dance, and our Christmas party.

Being together as a team is really important. For our routine to look all together our team must also be all-together. They can’t be strangers out there or nothing would work.  Being friendly on and off the court makes them a strong team.

Outfits

Choosing this years competition outfits is posing to be a challenge. We have to find one that matches our theme, Schools Out.

Summer dresses, skirts and tank tops, and shorts and a shirt are just some of the ideas we have been playing with.

We use websites like Varsity.com, Teamgofigure.com, and Justforkix.com.

The final decision is still up in the air but with competition season right around the corner a decision needs to be made soon!

Music

Picking out the music for our competition routine is the first step in process. It is also the hardest. We have to decide on a theme for our dance and then pick music based on that theme.

This year our theme is schools out. Our competition routine will have a variety of different summer and schools out songs like Schools Out for Summer, What Time is it, California Girls, and Summer Lovin.

Our captain Kyra and her sisters worked hard to create the mix and it turned out amazing!
